Round 3 – Pick 72: Jourdan Lewis – CB (Michigan)

NFL scouts are raving about all the talented corners in this year’s draft. Among them is 5’10” – 188 pound CB Jourdan Lewis. Lewis who played four years at Michigan finished his collegiate career with 6 interceptions, 36 pass deflections, and 135 total tackles.

Jourdan Lewis is a top-10 cornerback in the 2017 NFL Draft and a top-50 overall prospect. Jourdan’s draft stock is plummeting after being charged with domestic violence in March. While off the field issues are always a concern, Lewis is a 1st round talent who could still be undrafted come the 3rd round.

Lewis can play cornerback anywhere on the field, but he excels at the slot position. With Malcolm Butler possibly on the way out, Lewis could be a much cheaper replacement.

He’s a feisty corner similar to Butler, and one Pro Football Focus scout believes Lewis has been a top cornerback not only at Michigan, but all of college football over the past three years.

Pro Football Focus scout:

“Lewis is a playmaker who, simply put, has been one of the top cornerbacks in college football over the past three years. He makes plays on the ball, and just doesn’t allow wide receivers much success against him, giving up just 905 yards in coverage between 2014 and 2016.”

New England went out and spent $65 million dollars on CB Stephon Gilmore this off-season. That doesn’t mean the Patriots won’t try and add depth to their secondary. Look for them to pursue smaller corners like Jourdan Lewis.
