HOUSTON, TX - OCTOBER 15: Jason McCourty

The McCourty twins will finally have their chance to play together in the NFL as the New England Patriots acquired Jason McCourty in a trade with the Cleveland Browns.

The New England Patriots may not have wanted to trade Jimmy Garoppolo to the Cleveland Browns, but they have no problem trading with the team when it comes to other position players.

The latest?

The Browns announced Thursday that they have traded veteran cornerback Jason McCourty to the Patriots for a swap of late round draft picks.

With the move, the Patriots add another veteran cornerback and finally reunite the McCourty twins, as Jason will get to play with safety Devin McCourty.  It is a transaction that makes since for a number of reasons.

Following the loss of Malcolm Butler, who ironically signed with McCourty’s previous team – the Tennessee Titans, the Patriots were in need of another solid cornerback to play opposite Stephon Gilmore.

While the Patriots do have a number of in house options, most notably Eric Rowe, acquiring the nine-year veteran adds depth and a player who is reliable at the position.

The team’s current depth chart at the position at the moment is Gilmore, Eric Rowe, Jason McCourty, Jonathan Jones, Cyrus Jones and Ryan Lewis.  With the Patriots high on the upside of both Jonathan Jones and Lewis, selecting a cornerback in the early rounds of the draft may no longer be a priority.

That doesn’t mean the team wouldn’t take a cornerback in the first or second rounds if that player is the best available player when it comes time for them to make a selection.

In the meantime, it Jason McCourty is thrilled to be joining his brother in New England.  Following the trade, he posted the following caption on Instagram:

"“When you find out you get to play with your brother in New England…I ain’t stressin’”"

Around the AFC East: Danny Amendola makes it official in Miami

The sight many New England Patriots fans did not want to see is former wide receiver Danny Amendola signing his contract with the Miami Dolphins.

Amendola made the move from the Pats to the Dolphins official on Thursday and appears excited to begin his new journey with his former team’s AFC East rivals.

As awkward as it is for Patriots fans to embrace Amendola joining the Dolphins, have to be happy that a man who has been clutch here in New England is finally cashing in as he enters the end of his career.
