All eyes on Drew Pomeranz

On the same day in which the team placed Chris Sale on the 15-day DL, Drew Pomeranz’s progress was even more magnified as he attempted to get it together against the Phillies.

In allowing just two runs and striking out three in five innings pitched, Pomeranz wasn’t great, but he did enough to keep his team in the game.  In doing so, he was able to overcome some early inning control issues and fight on the mound.

Overall, it was a good sign from a pitcher the team now needs more than ever to hold off that team from New York.

"“From the third inning on, I felt like my curveball got a little better, my fastball had a little more ride on it,” Pomeranz said after the outing.  “Something I’ve been working on is using my legs a bit more, and I kind of figured something out there.  I still walked a few guys, hit a couple guys, but I’d much rather walk a guy or hit a guy than give up a double off the wall.  Felt like I made pitches when I needed to.”"

The Boston Red Sox just need him to ride on that momentum.  Though injuries have been a problem this season, Red Sox fans have seen what Pomeranz is capable of.

With both Chris Sale and Eduardo Rodriguez nursing injuries, getting Drew Pomeranz back right could be one of the high points of what is on pace to be a historic season.
