Patriots work out three players, including two running backs

The New England Patriots never take a day off when it comes to evaluating players.

According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, the team worked out quarterback Kyle Allen, running backs Andre Ellington and Charcandrick West on Tuesday.

Both Ellington and West are intriguing because both players have had some success in the NFL on other teams and both can catch the ball out of the backfield.

With first-round pick Sony Michel making his NFL debut in Week 2, the Patriots seem to be okay at the running back position, but let’s face it, both Michel and Rex Burkhead are questionable when it comes to durability.

Either Ellington or West would give them more depth at the position.  The team does have undrafted rookie Ralph Webb and Kenneth Farrow on the practice squad, but a veteran with experience appears to be the direction the team wants to go in, especially since the running backs will play a role in the passing game.

Both Charcandrick West and Andre Ellington have had success catching the ball out of the backfield.  Ellington has had the most success with 418 career carries for 1,752 yards with 10 touchdowns.  He also has 151 career receptions for 1,368 yards with three touchdowns.  He  might be the better fit for the New England Patriots.
