Jimmy Butler wants out of Minnesota and the forward is great friends with  Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving, but the C’s should stay away from Butler.

Even though we are getting closer to the regular season it seems like some rosters still aren’t set in stone. Jimmy Butler informed the Minnesota Timberwolves that he wants to be traded, and of course the Boston Celtics are linked, but they need to stay far away.

Butler is a great player. At one point you could even consider him a top-25 player in the NBA. Butler knows how to score, and that’s basically it.

Now we can not deny that Butler is a quality player, but here are 3 reasons that the Celtics should steer clear of Jimmy Butler.

More from Chowder and Champions

1. He is a locker room cancer

Every locker room that Jimmy Butler walks into ends up falling apart before he leaves. Butler seems to always be causing trouble.

In Minnesota, he had issues with Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns and just seems to be a negative influence on guys. Towns and Wiggins are great players and at this point better than Butler. Maybe Butler should focus on being a better player and not his teammates.

Butler tries to be a leader in a locker room but ends up doing more harm than good. He only lasted one season with the Timberwolves.

The whole reason he ended up in Minnesota was because he talked his way out of Chicago. He hated Fred Hoidberg so much and basically issued an ultimatum.

Even though Butler is friends with Kyrie Irving, I think he would ruin the Celtics locker room. All of the guys are team oriented and aren’t selfish. Brad Stevens has built a great culture in Boston. His hard work would be ruined if the Celtics ended up trading for him.

2. He isn’t that good anymore

Jimmy Butler is definitely a great scorer, but is he really still a good player? Butler was definitely a great player at one point, but now I would consider him a mediocre player.

Last season, Butler averaged 22.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.9 assists. These are slight dropoffs from the previous year, and I think even though Butler is still rather young, he is past his prime.

I think we will continue to see Butler’s numbers decline, and towards the end, it will not be pretty. There is no need for the Celtics to go out and get him.

Especially with this Celtics roster I just think Butler wouldn’t fit in. He would be a ball hog and cause the Celtics offense to struggle.

It makes zero sense for the Celtics to go after Butler. I think I would rather have Marcus Smart and Terry Rozier on this roster than Butler. At least we know they have plenty of good years ahead of them.

3. The Boston Celtics don’t need him

I think some people may be underestimating the talent that makes up this year’s Boston Celtics roster. The C’s are going to dominate the Eastern Conference and should make it to the NBA finals.

Jayson Tatum is poised to take the next step in his career. He has all the skills to be a top player in the NBA, and I think we are about to witness something amazing.

Also the duo of Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward will be deadly. Can you imagine the points these guys are going to put up? We might even see Irving average close to 10 assists a game. The Celtics have so many quality scorers that Irving won’t be relied on to score all the points.

The Celtics starting roster could be an All-Star team. They would definitely give the Western Conference a run for their money.

So I don’t care if someone has to take Danny Ainge’s phone away from him. The Celtics need to stay far away from Jimmy Butler. All he does is make things worse.
