The Boston Red Sox lineup will look a little different next season. Alex Cora announced that Andrew Benintendi will be the leadoff man next season.

No season is going to be the same. It is always good to switch things up and that is what the Boston Red Sox will be doing next season.

Winter Meetings are underway in Las Vegas and manager Alex Cora gave us a peek into what the Red Sox’s lineup will look like next season.

Andrew Benintendi will be leading off for Boston and Mookie Betts will be batting 2nd.

More from Chowder and Champions

Now don’t consider this a demotion for Betts. This is more of a compliment to his success last season.

Betts had the best season of his career in 2018. He had a .346 batting average with 32 home runs 80 RBIs and 30 stolen bases. Those aren’t numbers you typically see from a leadoff hitter.

By moving Betts down to the No.2 spot you hope that he will have more opportunities to bring guys in and get those RBIs over 100 next season. If he does that Betts may have a chance to repeat as AL MVP.

Benintendi is your stereotypical leadoff hitter. He is just looking to get on base. Benny can definitely launch the ball out of Fenway, but that isn’t his goal every swing.

The one-two punch of Benintendi and Betts will definitely be fun to watch. These guys are both great hitters. I expect plenty of RBI’s and stolen bases from the duo.

Boston is bringing back a majority of their roster from last season. They have a very good chance of repeating as champions. It is hard to go back-to-back but this team seems special.

So I think we will see Andrew Benintendi and Mookie Betts thrive in their new spots in the lineup and try and lead the Red Sox on another World Series run.
