Exploring which three Buffalo Bills players would Bill Belichick love to have on the New England Patriots roster.

Prior to the New England Patriots signing Cam Newton, the Buffalo Bills were the team to beat in the AFC East in 2020 according to most NFL pundits.

Talent wise, that still may be the case as the Bills have added a playmaker in Stefon Diggs and their defense may be even tougher in 2020 than it was in 2019.

After the departures of Tom Brady, Kyle Van Noy and Jamie Collins amongst other key roster losses the Patriots are a team with question marks at some key positions.  They have filled some holes via free agency and through the 2020 NFL Draft, but we all know Belichick has his most success roster building through signing or trading for players on teams he is most familiar with.

So, in scouring the Bills’ roster, I asked myself, which of these players would Bill Belichick love to coach.  With the success he has had with former Bills players like Stefon Gilmore and Chris Hogan, there are a few young players the Patriots coach would love to lure to New England.

While there is a lot of young and veteran talent to choose from, there are three players who would make an immediate impact on a Bill Belichick team.  These three players are not only young but are players who could flourish even more under the New England Patriots coach.

The New England Patriots coach would love the versatile skills of linebacker Matt Milano.

A tackling machine who is capable of also creating chaos in the backfield is Buffalo Bills outside linebacker Matt Milano.

If it seems like the fifth-round pick out of Boston College was always making big plays against the New England Patriots in 2019, it is because he was.

With 101 combined tackles and 1.5 sacks last season, Matt Milano is one of those players Bill Belichick would rather have on his team.  If the Bills don’t lock him up to a long-term contract, which they should, then it wouldn’t be surprising at all if he ends up in a Patriots’ uniform.

On a solid Buffalo Bills defense, Milano is a player who is capable of both playing the run and defending against the pass.  Just imagine what Bill Belichick would do with a player like this who always finds a way to be at the right place at the right time.

Just 25 years old, the ceiling is high on this young linebacker.  With his speed, which was noted by Belichick back in December, he would be a quicker version of recent noteworthy New England Patriots outside linebackers Mike Vrabel and Rob Ninkovich.

So, if the Bills don’t find a way to pay this man long-term, they will certainly risk seeing him twice a year playing for Bill Belichick.

The New England Patriots already miss out on Stefon Diggs.

The biggest shock of the offseason was not really that Stefon Diggs was traded, it is where he was traded to.

After many rumors linking him to the New England Patriots, the Minnesota Vikings shipped the talented, young receiver to the Buffalo Bills.  With what the Viking received in return, it would’ve been a very affordable deal for Bill Belichick to pull off.

Instead, Belichick and the New England Patriots will have to gameplan to stop Diggs, which they did have some success with in 2018 when they played the Vikings.  He also has the best cornerback in the league on his side in defending the emerging playmaking star.

As big as a matchup as Stephon Gilmore vs. Stephon Diggs will be, Belichick certainly would rather have a wide receiver like Diggs on his roster.  For Patriots fans, it would’ve been great had he been a weapon for Tom Brady to throw to.

Just imagine Stefon Diggs as a No. 1 option in the Patriots offense even in 2020 with Cam Newton or Jarrett Stidham at quarterback.

Coming off a season in which he hauled in 63 receptions for 1,130 yards and 6 touchdowns, Diggs should do great things for the Buffalo Bills.  It’s just too bad that kind of production wasn’t coming in a Patriots’ uniform in 2020.

But, who knows, if he becomes available again, perhaps Bill Belichick makes it happen.

Imagine Tre’Davious White in a New England Patriots uniform.

Prior to the last couple of seasons, Buffalo Bills All-Pro cornerback Tre’Davious White was most known to New England Patriots fans as that dude Rob Gronkowski gave the People’s elbow to in a game back in 2017.

Now, White is considered one of the top cornerbacks in the game and a player Bill Belichick would love to coach.

Considering what former Bills cornerback Stephon Gilmore turned into since signing with the Patriots, I don’t see Buffalo making that mistake again.  In ways, White is playing at a higher level than Gilmore was during his stint with the Bills.  He even revealed Gilmore as his inspiration for his high-level play in 2019.

"“He’s a great player,” White said during a press conference back in December, via NBC Sports.  “We exchanged numbers like two months ago.  So, we text on and off here.  It’s cool.  I texted him actually. Before the game Sunday, and I was like, ‘Man, you got two (interceptions), I’m feeling a little motivated today.’  Then, look how the football gods worked, I was able to get two picks myself.  He texted me after (my) game and was like, ‘You know you should’ve ran that back (for a touchdown).’  It’s a good competition.  He’s a good dude.”"

That competitive nature is exactly what makes Tre’Davious White a player Bill Belichick would love to coach.

Along with his obvious talent, he seems like the type of player who would do anything the coach asks him to do just like Stephon Gilmore.

Like Matt Milano, the Buffalo Bills better be working out a way to sign this man long-term or Bill Belichick will shell out the dough to make him the next star New England Patriots cornerback just like he did with Gilmore.
