Evan Lazar of Patriots Press Pass has fashioned a terrific analysis of Mac Jones’s abilities on YouTube, a must-see for any New England Patriots fan.

If you have any doubt about Mac Jones’s abilities, watch this video. Now, many Patriots fans may not have heard of Evan Lazar, let’s just say this, he’s an outstanding Patriots analyst.

Lazar’s analyses are somewhat hidden unless you are a YouTube Patriots enthusiast. He’s one of the best football analysts this observer has ever heard.

It’s that simple. No idea what his football background is, he just knows the game.

His exceptional analysis of Mac Jones’s quarterbacking strengths is so detailed and insightful that if you have any qualms about whether the Patriots have a really good quarterback on their hands, relax. They do. Jones is very possibly the hidden gem of the 2021 NFL Draft.

A previous article here said that Jones could shock the NFL world. The more you see his work, the more you’ll be convinced, as well. This guy is a master practitioner of the position.

Take this prediction to the bank, the New England Patriots may very well have lucked into a really top-flight quarterback once again.

New England Patriots Mac Jones’s abilities aren’t in “measurables”

Now, no one’s going to be like that guy from Michigan who was overlooked by many so-called experts because he didn’t literally look the part, physically. He was “skinny”.

Now a not-so-flattering photo of Jones is circulating that makes him look sort of, let’s say a bit out-of-shape. I like the comparison there.

Brady was the big-game winner at Michigan for which no one gave him much credit. Jones did the same at Alabama, again, without really the requisite recognition. It was the receivers, you know.

After all, he played on the best team in the nation with all the pro prospects, all the talent, blah, blah, blah. But let’s just say this, man, does that guy know how to play the game, and can he throw the football.

And he did it better than anyone else ever did in college football (since 1956) last season. And lo and behold, he’s now a New England Patriot. A few words of admonition are in order here.

If you’re an NFL team’s fan but not a fan of the New England Patriots be afraid, be very afraid. This guy is a football giant slayer and he is going to be coming for your team in the not too distant future.

Watch Lazar’s breakdown of the nuances of Mac Jones’s game and how he processes situations, and you’ll likely be convinced. And, if you are a Patriots fan, Mac Jones will rock your world.

What makes the New England Patriots Mac Jones so special?

How could Mac Jones be that good? Well, he possesses attributes of playing quarterback that just make good things happen. Things like nice plays. Lots of them.

What about Jones is so special? It’s the intangibles folks. He’s no super athlete but neither is he a lump of coal. What he has is what the best have, pocket presence and pocket awareness.

More from Chowder and Champions

He’s not the fastest, but he knows how to move in the pocket. Knows how to sidestep a rush. Knows how to move around in the pocket. Knows how to spot a defensive nuance, react almost instantaneously, and make the right decision.

It’s not the “arm strength” per se (although he can zip it), not blazing foot speed, really none of that.

His ability is this, it’s the ability to deliver an oblong ball into the hands of a guy with the same jersey he wears with astonishing accuracy. That is what this young man does.

It’s his decision-making and his perspicacity in understanding the game that make Jones such a potential steal of a steals in the 2021 draft.

Could it just be possible that the Patriot’s draft operation really got this one right? It would be unusual, but it just may be a fact.

Make no mistake, there will never be another “steal of history” like the New England Patriots stumbling onto the greatest of all time in the 2000 draft’s sixth-round pick.

That was the Brink’s and Great Train robberies and any and all other thefts all-rolled into one. (Thanks to the late, great Patriots coach Dick Rehbein for his terrific insight on that one.)

Yet, this theft of Jones at No. 15 may later be termed absolute grand theft larceny. Even though he was a first-round pick that came at No. 15.

Four other quarterbacks were drafted in front of him way up in the draft. Tom Brady had the Brady Six. Might the pundits in three or four years be talking about the Mac Jones Four?

Don’t bet against it.

In 2016, nine teams passed on a certain Patrick Mahomes in the NFL Draft. Nine teams are still kicking themselves for the miscue. None has won a Super Bowl since. But Mahomes has and he’s still young and learning his trade.

Jones is young, smart. He has a lot to learn but what he shows already in football nuance,  cognizance, and comprehension are simply uncanny. Watching Evan Lazar’s breakdown will help convince you if you have any doubts.

Here are two predictions. In a couple of years, we’ll be talking about Mac Jones as one of the rising mega-stars in the NFL.

And in addition, you’ll be seeing Evan Lazar all over the major networks commenting on Boston sports. Not a betting man, but you can take these predictions to the bank. Both, are rock-solid.
