With the MLB offseason in full swing, the Boston Red Sox have commanded headlines with their reported involvement in several of the highest-profile free agents.

Reports that the Red Sox are one of the final four teams in the Juan Soto sweepstakes and that the front office is looking to add multiple frontline starting pitchers are (cautiously) optimistic developments for Sox fans.

At this stage, the entirety of the dialogue surrounding the Red Sox pertains to what the club wants to do or might do. That should shift in the coming weeks or months as the offseason reaches the stage where speculation evolves into action. After how last offseason played out, Sox fans will need to see results before any celebrations are in order.

As ownership has cut back on player spending and attempted (unsuccessfully) to win while fielding a low-payroll roster, talented ballplayers have departed from the organization. Red Sox fans are no strangers to watching former Boston players find success elsewhere. This was on full display during the 2024 World Series, as six former Red Sox were members of the Los Angeles Dodgers championship team.

Numerous former Red Sox could be on the move this offseason as free agents – and this list covers several tiers and variable degrees of past contributions in Boston. From highly-ranked Red Sox prospects who only appeared in two games for the club to title-winning MVP candidates, here are 12 former Red Sox available in free agency this offseason.

12. Jalen Beeks

Jalen Beeks isn't exactly the first name that comes to mind when reminiscing on former Boston Red Sox players, but he has carved out a productive career for himself after he was dealt by the Red Sox early in his career. After appearing in only two games for the Red Sox at the big league level, Beeks was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for Nathan Eovaldi at the 2018 trade deadline – a trade that Boston would make 10 out of 10 times again.

Following that trade, Beeks remained with the Tampa Bay organization until he was claimed off of waivers by the Colorado Rockies on Nov. 6, 2023. In 347.2 career innings, the southpaw reliever has posted a 4.40 ERA and a 23-15 record.

Beeks made 45 appearances for the Rockies last season before he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates at the trade deadline. He made 26 appearances for the Pirates following the trade. In his 71 combined appearances, Beeks sported a 7-4 record with a 4.50 ERA and 10 saves.

Beeks, 31, should command some interest as an established left-handed reliever. Last season, he held lefty hitters to a .202 batting average. He could be a valuable option for a club seeking left-on-left matchups out of the bullpen.
