12 Former Red Sox Available in Free Agency
By Ryan Bunton
11. Martin Perez
Starting the list off with two southpaws – Martin Perez appeared in 48 games for the Red Sox in his two seasons with the club. From 2020-21, Perez posted a 4.65 ERA and made 34 starts for Boston.
Following his final 2021 season with the Red Sox, Perez signed with the Texas Rangers, with whom he spent the first seven years of his career. He put together a career-best 2022 campaign – earning an All-Star nod as he held opposing teams to a 2.89 ERA. Perez returned to the Rangers in 2023 and was a member of Texas' World Series championship team.
The Venezuela native began last season with the Pittsburgh Pirates before he was sent to the San Diego Padres at the trade deadline. Despite holding a 2-5 record with a 5.20 ERA in 16 starts with Pittsburgh, Perez turned it around once arriving in San Diego – finishing with a 3-1 record and 3.46 ERA in his final 10 starts.
Perez should draw attention due to his proven ability to start games and log innings out of the bullpen. He will turn 34 in early April.
