12 Former Red Sox Available in Free Agency

8. Craig Kimbrel
Now 36 years old, Craig Kimbrel has already established himself as one of the greatest closers in MLB history. The nine-time All-Star ranks fifth all-time in saves – his 440 saves are seven shy of former Red Sox Kenley Jansen.
Kimbrel donned a Red Sox uniform from 2016-18 and was an instrumental piece in Boston's 2018 World Series title – saving 48 combined regular season and postseason games that season. In 187 career games with the Red Sox, Kimbrel held a 2.44 ERA and struck out 305 batters in 184.1 innings of work. He was tabbed as an All-Star in each of his three seasons in Boston and even finished sixth in the American League Cy Young voting in 2017.
Kimbrel appeared in 57 games for the Baltimore Orioles in 2024, but he was released just before the postseason on Sept. 24. He finished last season with a 5.33 ERA and 23 saves – while striking out 73 batters in 52.1 innings.
The 15-year veteran could very well be on the back nine of his career, but Kimbrel was an All-Star as recently as 2023 and would undoubtedly like another opportunity to climb the all-time saves list. It will be intriguing to see how much interest he garners in free agency.
