7. Yoan Moncada

Yoan Moncada only played eight big league games for the Boston Red Sox, but he was notably the centerpiece of a blockbuster trade in Dec. 2016 in which the Red Sox acquired ace Chris Sale from the Chicago White Sox. The South Siders also received Michael Kopech, Luis Alexander Basabe, and Victor Diaz.

A top-ranked prospect, the then-21-year-old Moncada made his MLB debut on Sept. 2, 2016 and recorded four hits in 19 at-bats.

Since that blockbuster trade, Moncada has spent his entire career with the White Sox. In those eight seasons, the Cuban switch-hitter has hit .254/.332/.425 with 93 home runs and 338 RBI.

Moncada has never quite lived up to the hype surrounding his ascension through the minor leagues – and injuries haven't helped his cause either. In the last three seasons, the third baseman has only appeared in a combined 208 games. He only played 12 games in 2024 before he suffered a season-ending strained abductor.

Chicago declined Moncada's team option on Nov. 1, sending the 29-year-old to free agency.
