4. J.D. Martinez

One day, J.D. Martinez will get the credit he deserves as one of the best right-handed hitters in the sport over the last decade. In Feb. 2018, Martinez signed a five-year, $110 million contract with the Red Sox. He more than proved himself worthy of the contract – earning All-Star honors in four of his five seasons in Boston.

In Boston's 2018 championship season, Martinez absolutely raked – slashing .330/.402/.629 with 43 home runs and 130 RBI. In his first campaign in a Red Sox uniform, Martinez finished fourth in the American League MVP voting – won by teammate Mookie Betts – won the Hank Aaron Award, led the AL in RBI, and became the first player in history to win multiple Silver Sluggers in the same season. He added 14 RBI in 14 playoff games during Boston's World Series run.

From 2018-2022, Martinez hit .292/.363/.526 with 130 home runs and 423 RBI for the Red Sox.

Before the 2023 season, Martinez signed with the Dodgers and posted a resurgent season – blasting 33 home runs and driving in 103 RBI. Despite this, he was not re-signed by the Dodgers and spent 2024 with the New York Mets. In 120 games, Martinez hit .235/.320/.406 with 16 home runs and 69 RBI.

Martinez didn't receive a ton of traction during last offseason, but his pedigree might persuade a front office to overlook his age (37) and give him a crack at the DH spot. In 367 games over the past three seasons, Martinez has only played three games in the field. The Mets, Texas Rangers, and Miami Marlins have been suggested as potential landing spots for the six-time All-Star.
