Super Bowl XLVIII was being billed as the absolute best offense vs. the best defense in the NFL. The Broncos had set offensive records all season long, while the Seahawks had a defense that offenses were scared of matching up with. Many thought this would be a close and competitive game and it would come down to a last second play, but Seattle had other things in mind as they blew out the Broncos 43-8. On the first play of the game Peyton Manning fumbled the football at the Broncos 14 yard line, and after scrambling in their own end zone the Broncos gave up a safety to start off the Super Bowl. This would be a sign of things to come for John Fox and the Broncos, as Russell Wilson went on to throw for 206 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Marshawn Lynch ran for a brisk 39 yards but scoring 1 touchdown. Peyton Manning’s postseason struggles continued as he threw 2 interceptions, including 1 to Malcolm Smith who returned it 69 yards to put the Seahawks up 22-0.
