For the 34th time in each team’s history the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens faced off in the playoffs against one another. The Bruins had the edge in the most recent playoff series against them in 2011 en route to their first Stanley Cup in 39 years. The series started off on a rocky note for the Causeway Crew as they dropped Game 1 at home in double overtime, P.K Subban blasted a shot from the perimeter just 4 minutes into the overtime session to give the Habs an early 1-0 series lead. Both teams would then swap victories before the Bruins would managed to steal a 1-0 overtime victory in Montreal to tie the series up at 2-2. They would capture another victory back in Boston thanks in part to Tuukka Rask’s 29 saves, the victory would give the Bruins a 3-2 series edge going into Game 6 in Montreal. Thomas Vanek had other plans though as he netted two goals for the Candiens en route to a 4-0 spanking of the Bruins which would lead to a Game 7 matchup back in Boston. The TD Garden was rocking that night but the Habs were not rattled by the noise, as they scored early and often, Dale Weise started things off for the Habs just 2 minutes into the game scoring his 3rd goal of the playoffs. Max Pacioretty added another goal in the 2nd period to give the Habs a 2-0 lead and silence the Bruins home crowd. Jarome Iginla managed to beat Carey Price in the final moments of the second, and with just 20 minutes left in the season the Bruins were down 2-1. The score would remain the same for most of the third, as the Bruins were firing shot after shot against Price but he was able to stop all of them. Daniel Briere put the nail in the coffin for the Bruins as his power play goal in the final 3 minutes of the game sealed the game for the Candidens and sent them to the Eastern Conference Finals.
