Derek Jeter announced his retirement in February of 2014, explaining that after almost 20 years in the big leagues that it was time to hang the spikes up after the 2014 season. So when the All-Star game came around in Minneapolis, Minnesota it was all but a forgone conclusion that Jeter would get one final start at the Midsummer Classic. When the bottom of the 1st came around Jeter stepped in as the leadoff batter for the American League facing off against the Cardinals Adam Wainwright and laced his second pitch cutter down the right field line and legged out a double in his final All-Star game. Jeter would go ahead and rope a single off the Reds Alfredo Simon in the third and eventually scoring before coming out and being replaced by Alexei Ramirez. As he left the field Jeter took in the standing ovation given by the fans, announcers, and even the players and gave his thanks to baseball as he left the All-Star game for the final time.
