Mo’Ne Davis Shines in Williamsport

Mo’Ne Davis broke into Americans television sets after becoming the first girl in Little League World Series history to earn the win as a starting pitcher. Davis also became the first girl in Little League World Series history to pitch a shutout, she accomplished that feat in Pennsylvania’s opening round game against Tennessee going all 6 innings and striking out 8 batters in the win. Davis also contributed at the plate, scoring what a RBI in their next game against Texas that would eventually help them earn another win as they moved on to the next round of the U.S side of the Little League World Series bracket. In what would be Pennsylvania’s final game, Davis once again took the mound as she pitched 2 1/3 innings while striking out six, however after Davis exited the game due to pitch restrictions Nevada started to pour on the runs. In the sixth inning Nevada broke the 1-1 tie and scored five unanswered runs to eliminate Davis and her Pennsylvania Little League squad team from the Little League World Series. In a year where there was plenty of controversy and black marks over the sports world, Mo’Ne Davis and her story rose above to give us one of the more inspirational and uplifting stories of 2014.
