In what was Landon Donovan’s final MLS game he was able to lead the L.A Galaxy to their 5th MLS Cup, defeating the New England Revolution 2-1. The first half of the game was an extremely cautious half played by both teams, neither wanting to give up the pivotal first goal. Going into the half the Revolution and Galaxy were tied 0-0. Coming out of the half both teams knew they needed to make a more aggressive approach if they wanted to clinch the MLS Cup. The second half got started thanks to a goal from the Galaxy’s Gyasi Zardes thanks to an assist from Stefan Ishizaki to give the Galaxy the first lead of the game. It took two periods of extra time, in a back and forth effort by both teams before the final goal was scored. Robbie Keane received a pass from teammate Marcelo Sarvas and was able to shake off a defender that lead to a breakaway goal, giving the Galaxy the game clinching goal. For Donovan he captured his sixth MLS Cup and retired with 136 career goals, most in MLS history.
