Obviously this one sticks out in most Patriot fans minds because it’s Tom Brady, and we all know the story what happened.
Opening Day against the Kansas City Chiefs at home, Brady suffers a hit from Bernard Pollard and tears his ACL as a result. The reason this isn’t number one on our list is because Matt Cassel stepped right in and went 11-5 in his absence.
Now, this isn’t the spark to debate who is more valuable to the Patriots, Brady or Belichick. But it is a matter of fact that Cassel was able to step in and win 11 games. Brady’s injury has not slowed him since then, in the seven years since Brady has put up the same, if not better numbers.
