Five Players the Celtics Could Target at the Deadline
4. Hassan Whiteside
Whiteside was drafted in the second round back in 2010 by Sacramento, but the big guy never panned out the way the Kings would have liked. After being out of the league for a bit, Miami went in an signed him to a low-risk deal, and he’s more than delivered. This season the big guy has had averages of 12 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks per game. A fantastic stat line for a big guy who wasn’t even playing for awhile. He’s only 26, so Hassan Whiteside still has plenty of potential in his game and Danny Ainge knows the Celtics need a rim protector. Whiteside would be the big guy the C’s have coveted since Perkins was traded. He’s a solid 7 ft. and about 260 pounds, his athletic ability lets him fly all over the court and help out his team. It’s unlikely Miami would trade a diamond in the rough, especially when they can build around him and Justice Winslow, but nothing is off the table.
