Pablo Sandoval (Shoulder Surgery): Sandoval never collected a hit for the Red Sox this season; his 2016 ended on the operating table of Dr. James Andrews.

Carson Smith (Tommy John Surgery): Smith was acquired from Seattle over the off-season for starter Wade Miley. Boston had anticipated on using Smith as a setup man, but Smith’s arm gave out early in the season.

Blake Swihart (Ankle Sprain): Swihart severely sprained his ankle last month after running into a wall in left field at Fenway Park. Swihart will likely be able to return in mid-August.

Eduardo Rodriguez (Knee): Though not on the disabled list, Rodriguez returned to Pawtucket to fine tune his delivery while incorporating his previously-injured knee back into his wind up.

Travis Shaw (Foot): Shaw fouled a ball off of his foot earlier this week; he is expected to return either Sunday or immediately following the All-Star break depending on the severity of the contusion.
