Red Sox: Report Card at the All-Star Break
By Blake Yagman
Outlook: Grade B
Red Sox general manager Dave Dombrowski finally made his first in-season trade; the team acquired Aaron Hill from the Brewers to help supplant a lack of infield depth. Dombrowski has also made it clear he will pursue improvements for the pitching staff; could that mean the Red Sox trade for someone like Marlins ace Jose Fernandez?
The Red Sox will probably trade for a middle of the rotation starter, like Oakland’s Rich Hill, as opposed to a bonafide ace. Hopefully, in David Ortiz’ final season, that is all the Red Sox will need to reach the promised land.
The Red Sox offense will continue to score, but will Steven Wright continue to hold the pitching staff together? Unless Dombrowski makes several more moves before the deadline, it is hard to believe this team is prepared to pitch deep into October.
