Champions Off the Field: Patriots safety Devin McCourty Honors Students’Efforts to Fight Hunger
A champion on the field, New England Patriots safety Devin McCourty shows why he is a champion off the field.
On Tuesday, New England Patriots safety Devin McCourty took some time to visit Plymouth Intermediate School to honor students’ efforts to fight hunger. The students were receipients of last year’s DMac Gives Back Challenge, sponsored by McCourty and the New England Dairy and Food Council.
The students were honored for their efforts in donating much-needed milk for the local food bank last year. Joined by team mascot Pat Patriots, the defensive captain thanked the students.

As hunger continues to be a major problem throughout the country, it is wonderful to see today’s youth organizing and participating in the effort. One of the ways they earned money to purchase milk was by collecting spare change during school lunches. McCourty congratulated the students on putting together such a winning formula.
To continue to inspire the students and their efforts, McCourty shared the Patriots playbood of success and the importance of giving back throughout life. It is a formula McCourty is showing as he leads by example.
And for those who attended the assembly, homerooms had to collect 32 non-perishable food items (32 symbolic of McCourty’s uniform number). As a whole, the school collected more than 1,500 items.
Sunday vs Cleveland
Devin McCourty has been doing his part to serve the community, but don’t think that the safety hasn’t been busy preparing for this week’s matchup against the Cleveland Browns. McCourty was one of several players that helped build a new playground at Old Colony YMCA Bolton Place Family Center on Tuesday and took some tme to address how the team has had to study all the quarterbacks the Browns have had this season.
“You had (Robert Griffin III) in there, then you see (Josh) McCown, then you see (Cody) Kessler, and (Terrelle) Pryor, then you see some wildcat, so they’ve done a ton of different things. Obviously, they haven’t won a game yet, but you see so many positive things that they do. It’s a lot to prepare for,” McCourty said via the Boston Herald.

The Patriots defense will certainly have to step up against the Browns just like how McCourty has stepped up in serving the community. He is a true champion off the field.
