The New England Patriots rookie defensive back Cyrus Jones is having a season he would like to forget.

It hasn’t been the best rookie season for Cyrus Jones, but the New England Patriots second-round pick is definitely learning.  In a season where he has shown flashes of promise mirrored with costly mistakes and inconsistent play, Jones has taken nothing but self-blame.

The one play symbolic of his frustrating season was his kick return during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 31-24 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.  Jones exploded for a 43-yard runback, but ended the play with a fumble.  Luckily Patriots safety Nate Ebner recovered the ball.

More from Boston Sports

"“I’m pretty hard on myself,” Jones said regarding the play via NESN. “So regardless of how good the return goes, I still don’t want that negative feeling to happen. So I was pretty upset.”"

It was the cornerback’s third fumble in six games and on top of that it was his first game active following a Week 5 ejection.  For a competitive player like Jones, returning to the field and making a mistake only added to his frustration.

"“It was really tough,” Jones said. “I’m a highly competitive person. I’ve got a lot of confidence in what I can do. So it’s tough just not being out there with your team and doing anything you can to help the team win.”"

Jones still has a chance to make something positive out of his rookie season.  He must find a way to turn that frustration into motivation, learn from his mistakes and earn the trust of his teammates and coaches.

Injury list:  Rob Gronkowski did not practice again Thursday due to a chest injury making his availability for Sunday’s game unlikely.  He wasn’t the only Patriots player to miss practice.  Left tackle Nate Solder was also absent, but it was not injury related.

While Gronkowski and Solder were the only players that did not practice, four others were limited.  Those players include:

TE Martellus Bennett (ankle)

DL Alan Branch (back)

WR Julian Edelman (foot)

WR Chris Hogan (back)

Champions off the fieldNew England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola unveiled a reading room at Edgar B. Davis School in Brockton, Mass.  The new reading room was courtesy of his Catches for Kid’s Foundation

The room is loaded with more than 600 new books and decorated to create a fun atmosphere for kids to get excited about reading.

"“I’m just encouraging students to read. It’s something you can do daily. It’s something you can do whether you’re sitting at home reading a newspaper or ordering something online,” Danny said via Patriots.com. “It’s endless. All I’m doing is trying to make an environment that’s colorful and fun so kids can come and enjoy themselves.”"

As part of the ribbon cutting ceremony, Amendola stood and read a “Curious George” book to a class of second graders.
