3 Boston Bruins Legends Celebrated
As Part of the NHL Centennial Celebration the League is honoring its 100 best players throughout history. There are 3 Boston Bruins who made the list.
Johnny Bucyk, Milt Schmidt, and Eddie Shore were named as part of the First 33 during Sunday’s Centennial Classic between the Detroit Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs. The First 33 are the players who played during the first half of the century, 1917-1966.
The remaining players will be revealed at The NHL 100 celebration on January 27, during the All-Star break.
Johnny Bucyk (Boston Bruins: 1957-1978)
“The Chief” an Edmonton native, played 21 seasons with the Boston Bruins out of his 23 total. He was captain of the team for 5 of those seasons. He led the team to 2 Stanley Cups in 1970 and 71.
His number 9 is retired and is hanging in the TD Garden where it belongs.

Milt Schmidt (Boston Bruins:1936-1955)
Mr. Bruin played with the Boston Bruins for all of his 16 seasons. Schmidt was a Ontario Native but was Bostonian at heart. During his career he scored 229 times, had 346 helpers for 575 points, in 776 games.
Milt missed three seasons (1942-195) because he enrolled in the Royal Canadian Air force during World War II. He was followed by other “Kraut line” members Bobby Bauer, and Woody Dumart.
Schmidt is now 98-years-old. He captained the team from 1950-54, and is the leagues oldest living player.
He is the only Bruins to have his name engraved on the Stanley Cup 4 times. Schmidt won twice as a player (1939, 1941). And two more times as a manager (1970,1972). He wore number 15 which now hangs in the rafters at the TD Garden, after being retired by the Bruins. He was also inducted into the Hockey Hall Of Fame in 1961.
Eddie Shore(Boston Bruins: 1926-1940)
Eddie Shore is on the long list of Great defenseman to have worn the Spoked B. He paved the way for guys like Bobby Orr, Ray Bourque, and Zdeno Chara. The native Saskatchewan, Canada, played 14 years with the Team, and won the Hart Trophy as League MVP 4 times.
He won two Stanley Cups with the team, the first one was the teams first ever cup in 1929 then another in 1939.
Shore scored 105 goals, 179 assists, for 284 points in 550 games. He also managed to get 1,038 penalty minutes which makes him 6th all time in Bruins history. Hi number 2 has also been retired by the Bruins and resides in the rafters of the TD Garden.
