Boston Bruins prospect Charlie McAvoy has signed a three-year entry level contract that begins with this 2016-17 season. He’s expected to practice with the Bruins today.

Don Sweeney recently announced that the Boston Bruins have signed defenseman Charlie McAvoy to a three-year entry level contract which begins this season.

McAvoy is en route to Boston and will practice at the Warrior Ice Arena with the team today.

The possibility of a call up was made clear as the Providence Bruins scratched both McAvoy and Tommy Cross for their game today.

To be determined in the next number of hours. We weren’t comfortable putting them in here today for obvious reasons until we get a better idea of what our depth might look like getting into the first round., said John Ferguson Jr., Bruins executive director of player personnel at the time."

The move likely signals that Torey Krug or Brandon Carlo won’t be able to go. Boston may be without both young defenseman. Ideally, the Bruins would not have like to burn a year of a contract for Charlie McAvoy this season, but injuries have made this the best option for the playoffs.

So far in Providence, McAvoy has played in four AHL games, and he has two assists.

McAvoy will join his former Boston University teammate Jakob Forsback-Karlsson, who recently made his Boston debut.
