Boston Red Sox vs Tampa Bay Rays: 3-game Series Prediction
By Riley Culler
GAME 3: May 14th – Sunday: Rays @ Red Sox 1:35 PM (EST)
Probable Pitchers:
- Boston – (L) Drew Pomeranz (3-2) (5.23 ERA) (1.39 WHIP)
- Tampa Bay – (R) Matt Andriese (2-1) (3.12 ERA) (1.29 WHIP)
Drew Pomeranz has a ton of potential, but inconsistent pitching may be his downfall. He’s had 4 starts with 2 or less earned runs, and then 2 starts with 5 or more earned runs. There isn’t much pressure on Pomeranz to step up, but until Price returns, it would be nice for him to be a bit more consistent.
This will be Andriese’s first start against Boston this season, last season the Red Sox lineup was not too kind. Andriese’s allowed 12 earned runs in just 18.2 innings pitched against the Red Sox in 2016.
Prediction: Lose
Next: Rodriguez continues to improve
Boston has a good track record against Andriese, but you can’t take much of what happened last season too seriously. I believe this will be a high scoring game, with both pitchers inconsistent it isn’t unlikely. The Red Sox lose in a nail bitter to just miss the sweep of the Rays.
