Patriots Gridiron News: Brandin Cooks loves the ‘work ethic’ of Julian Edelman
New England Patriots wide receiver Brandin Cooks has nothing but praise for new teammate and fellow wide receiver Julian Edelman.
There has been a lot of praise going on this week in Foxboro. Acquired in a trade with the New Orleans Saints this offseason, new wide receiver Brandin Cooks spoke to the media for the first time on Tuesday. The New England Patriots new weapon not only praised quarterback Tom Brady, but also had great things to say about Julian Edelman.
The 23-year-old wide receiver will bring his own element of explosiveness to the offense, but does look forwards to working alongside Edelman who he praised for his work ethic.
"“His work ethic is great,” Cooks said when asked what he learned from Edelman his first weeks working with him. “I always saw him from a distance [as] a guy that can play. And, once again, I’m excited to be able to play with a guy like that alongside him.”More from Chowder and Champions3 Midseason Chaim Bloom Decisions That Have Killed the 2023 Red Sox10 Patriots Who Will Be Cut by Tuesday’s Roster DeadlineMLB Screws Red Sox Fans With Broadcast for Mookie Betts Return3 Most Underpaid Celtics Heading Into the 2023 SeasonRed Sox Continue Rollercoaster Season With Massive Win"
Like Cooks, Edelman is coming off a 1,000-yard season. As Tom Brady’s favorite target going down the stretch, Edelman really stepped up and made the plays necessary for his team to win. That is what stood out for Brandin Cooks about Edelman watching from afar.
"“His work ethic,” Cooks repeated. “Well, his playmaking ability. That’s what I have to say. He’s a playmaker.”"
With Cooks on the field, it should be tough for defenses to cover him, Edelman and tight end Rob Gronkowski.
While the Patriots new wide receiver was coy when asked how the two will complement each other, there has to be an element of excitement when the two players line up next to each other on the field.
Team releases tight end Michael Williams
With all the new additions the team has made this offseason, now the releases are starting to happen.
As reported by the team on Friday, the New England Patriots have released tight end Michael Williams.
The 26-year-old former offensive lineman spent all of the 2016 season on the injured reserve list with a torn ACL. The move is not surprising considering the number of tight ends the team has heading into training camp.
With the return of Rob Gronkowski, the Patriots have Dwayne Allen, Matt Lengel, James O’Shaughnessy, Rob Housler and undrafted rookie Jacob Hollister battling for roster spots.
