The New England Patriots added yet another offensive weapon to their receiving group with the signing of Andrew Hawkins.

If they haven’t already added enough offensive weapons, the New England Patriots have signed wide receiver Andrew Hawkins to a one-year deal Wednesday.

The former Cleveland Browns receiver announced the signing via video on a network created by no other than LeBron James.

In the announcement, Hawkins expressed his excitement to get an opportunity with a champion organization.

"“I’m super excited about the opportunity to join the reigning football champions, he said in the video, via Patriots.com.  “I exited Cleveland, and I said it was about joining a contender and the Patriots are a contender, the reigning champs.  The program is top-notch and you get the opportunity to play with the best quarterback and the best coach in NFL history.”More from Chowder and Champions3 Midseason Chaim Bloom Decisions That Have Killed the 2023 Red Sox10 Patriots Who Will Be Cut by Tuesday’s Roster DeadlineMLB Screws Red Sox Fans With Broadcast for Mookie Betts Return3 Most Underpaid Celtics Heading Into the 2023 SeasonRed Sox Continue Rollercoaster Season With Massive Win"

Hawkins went on to talk about proving himself to the team and how special it feels to join an organization that has built a legacy of winning.

At 31 years old, Hawkins will have his work cut out for him.  The 5-foot-7, 175-pound receiver comes in as another option at the slot position.  In his best season with Cleveland, he caught 63 passes for 824 yards.  He has been on a decline since then, but that lack of production could be reflective of the lack of consistent quarterback play with the Browns.

Role with the Patriots?

In New England, he will have a chance to compete add some veteran depth.  With Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola already on the team, it will be tough for Hawkins to make the team.  As usual, Bill Belichick may just be adding competition to a position that appears to be already loaded.

With the signing, Hawkins joins Edelman, Amendola, Chris Hogan, Brandin Cooks, Malcolm Mitchell, Devin Lucien, DeAndrew White, Devin Street, Cody Hollister and Austin Carr.

It is fair to say that Andrew Hawkins will really have to impress to stick around once the 2017 season begins.
