Boston Celtics: Kevin Garnett’s top 5 moments in green
10 years ago Monday, Kevin Garnett was traded to the Boston Celtics in a move that brought pride back to a historic franchise.
When the Boston Celtics acquired Kevin Garnett 10 years ago, championship hopes were high in the city. He helped to form the first super team, with Paul Pierce and Ray Allen. Don’t forget they also had Rajon Rondo dishing the ball out.
To this day, the KG trade has repercussions for the Celtics and the NBA. Boston is still reaping the benefits from trading both Garnett and Pierce to the Brooklyn Nets.
Garnett made it known in his introductory press conference that he was in Boston to win, and he did just that.
"“I thought this was probably my best opportunity at winning a ring, so I took the big steps to make those adjustments. And here we are, wearing no. 5.”"
The Big Ticket was one of my favorite Boston Celtics players of all-time, so on the 10th anniversary of him coming to Boston, let’s take a look at his top 5 moments in green.
5. 2009 Buzzer Beater over New York Knicks
Kevin Garnett’s jump shot was one of the best in the NBA, and during his time with the Celtics it was deadly.
In his second season in Boston, the C’s were on the road early in the year to take on the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. The game had gone into overtime and the score was knotted up at 105 with just 9.3 seconds left to play. Ray Allen inbounded the ball to Paul Pierce, and everyone thought he was going to take the final shot.
KG rolled up to Pierce near the three-point line, and his man decided to double-team Pierce. Garnett rolled and was wide open for his jump shot. He hit the shot and the Celtics went on to win their next 10 games, which pushed them to 20-4 early in the season.
