NEW ORLEANS, LA – JANUARY 01: Tony Brown /

8. CB Tony Brown, Alabama

Again, the New England Patriots could lose starting corner Malcolm Butler after this season and they will want to add some depth at the position for 2018. Free agency is a possible option here, but a cheap rookie could perform just as well.

Alabama’s Tony Brown is expected to go somewhere between the 3rd and 4th round, a prime spot for the Patriots as they look for that depth.

Brown is also 6’0″ but is a little bigger than Levi Wallace at 195lbs. He has 29 tackles for Alabama this season with 2 passes defended in 12 games. Scouts love his physical skill set and his instincts, but he gambles sometimes. Since he gambles so much, the coaching staff at Alabama have limited his playing time because they just don’t trust him, but he has the perfect skill set to succeed as a cornerback in the NFL. A tough coach like Bill Belichick may be able to reign Brown in, utilizing his skills perfectly and making sure he doesn’t always go for the big play.
