Defense, defense, defense

After allowing a season high in points in back-to-back games prior to the All-Star break, the Boston Celtics will look to get back to what made them the top defensive team in the NBA.

In doing so, the team will need to reset the energy and effort that led them to a 22-4 start to the season.

With rest and the return of Marcus Smart, the Celtics will rediscover that defensive intensity they became known for.  After holding himself accountable for the team’s defensive struggles the last few games, Smart said the team needs to match the hunger other teams have playing against them.

"“Effort,” Smart said, via the Boston Herald.  “Other teams want it more than us right now.  I think we got a little complacent, and we’ve just got to realize, especially going into the last part of the season, that teams are gunning for us.  We’ve been a hot team, and we’ve got to come and bring it every game.”"

With Smart back in the fold, there is a good bet that effort and energy will be there.  The Celtics have gone through a bit of a rude awakening and now is the time to respond.

Barkley’s dismissal may be motivational fuel the team needs.
