Who will be the backup?

The Boston Bruins are essentially without a backup goaltender at the moment. Anton Khudobin is an unrestricted free agent and will be in search of a nice payday this offseason. Khudobin is coming off of a great season where he saved the Bruins early on while Tuukka Rask was struggling.

It appears that the Bruins hope to bring the goaltender back, but they aren’t willing to overpay for a veteran goaltender.

"“I thought he had a great year for us,” said Neely. I think he stepped in when Tuukka was struggling a little bit and gave us an opportunity to win hockey games. If we didn’t have that, we certainly wouldn’t have had the year that we had. He’s well liked in the locker room. Starting last year, those two big games for us in Chicago and against the Islanders, and then he followed it up with a good start this year. Obviously it has to make sense for us. When someone has a really good year going into the UFA, sometimes they want to see what’s really out there and you can’t blame him for that.”"

Khudobin ended the season with a 16-6-7 record with a .913 save percentage.  If a team is looking for a solid backup Khudobin could be the answer. I think if the Bruins get out in front of other teams and make him a priority “Dobby” will be coming back to Boston.
