More of the good Rick Porcello

Despite taking the loss to drop his record to 8-3 on the season, it was another solid start for Rick Porcello.

Like Chris Sale, who pitched a gem in the series opener and took a loss, Porcello wasn’t satisfied in his quality start because it wasn’t enough to the team win.

"“It was a battle and I really felt I could have thrown the ball a lot better than I did,” Porcello said following the game.  “Mainly it was walks and two of those walks were for bad walks that resulted in two runs.”"

The White Sox took a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning when Jose Abreu hit a RBI double high off the Green Monster.  After getting out of another jam in the second, Porcello settled down until the sixth when a leadoff walk eventually led to a 3-1 lead for Chicago.

That run ended up being the winning run since the offense did get the game within a run heading into the top of the ninth.

While Porcello understands there will be struggles on the mound, he knows he has to be more aggressive in certain situations.  But, if the team could muster a couple more hits with runners in scoring position, Rick Porcello did pitch well enough to win.

With an ERA of 3.54 in 14 starts, the positive to take from the outing on Sunday is that Rick Porcello is better this season than he was a season ago.
