Solid consistency

With the win Tuesday night, Eduardo Rodriguez increased his record to 8-1 with a 3.64 ERA.

In allowing just the two runs, Rodriguez showed his ability to battle against batters as he did give up eight hits.  That was the main reason he wasn’t able to last past the 5 1/3 innings pitched.

If there is anything the 25-year-old Pitcher needs to work on, it is attacking hitters earlier in the count to stay out of early game trouble and also keep his pitch count down.  Sounds like he has gotten some solid advice from the veteran starters on the team.

"“[My teammates] tell me to attack the hitters more, earlier in the count,” Rodriguez said, as transcribed by MassLive.com.  “To get to 0-2 and try to put them away as quick as I can.  That’s the best way to get deep in the game.  It’s something that I need to work on.”"

With only pitching paste the sixth inning 10 times in 57 starts over the past three seasons, Rodriguez does need to find a way to go deeper in games if he hopes to become a dominant pitcher in the league.

Part of it is finding out who he according to Red Sox manager Alex Cora.  Once he recognizes his strengths, he will not have to experiment with pitches during the game.

The good news is that he is already effective as a pitcher.  Imagine how much more effective he will be when he figures it all out.  For now, he gives his team a chance to win and that’s what counts.
