Boston Celtics draft day live: 3 things that could happen

It is always possible that Danny Ainge is working on a bigger deal.  If Jaylen Brown is dealt Thursday night, it will be in a package deal for Kawhi Leonard.

The disgruntled San Antonio Spurs star is unhappy with his current team and reportedly wants to play for the Los Angeles Lakers.  If he is not traded to L.A., Leonard has made is known that he will not re-sign a long-term deal with whatever team the Spurs trade him to.

For that reason, a Kawhi to Boston deal doesn’t seem likely.  However, Kevin Garnett once was reluctant to play in Boston and look how that turned out.  So anything is possible (in the words of KG).  But, Ainge would have to be convinced that Leonard will sign a long-term deal with the Celtics.

The other possibility is the team swap stars by trading Kyrie Irving for Kawhi Leonard.  Both players will be free agents in 2019 and if Ainge is going to take a risk on Leonard, it will have to be that type of scenario.
