Mookie does it with the glove

When Mookie Betts is in the game, good things seem to always happen.

On Sunday, the Boston Red Sox outfielder once again proved how complete of a player he is. In driving in a run on a sacrifice fly, Betts found a way to have an impact on the game without the swing of his bat.

With the team taking a 3-0 in the fifth inning, Betts put a stop to the Mariners attempt to get back in the game the following inning.  With a runner on second base, Seattle’s Mitch Haniger launched a high fly ball towards the Mariners’ bullpen in right center.

Shielding off the sun, Betts leaped and made a great catch to rob the Mariners of a potential home run and at least a chance to get back in the game.  As far as whether he thought the ball had a chance to get out before he tracked it down, Betts shared after the game that he had no clue, but knew he had to make the play.

"“I wasn’t sure, I thought it was pretty close,” Betts said, via MLB.com.  “I just tried to get it out of the sun because it started to go toward the sun.  I knew once I got out of it, I had a chance to catch it.”"

The defensive gem helped the Boston Red Sox keep momentum in the game as they went on to increase their lead to 5-0 on the team’s next at-bat.
