Boston Red Sox: 3 standouts in Game 79 win over Seattle Mariners
Mitch Moreland’s two-run blast
Dominant pitching and great defense wouldn’t be complete without a clutch home run.
Okay, Mitch Moreland’s two-run blast in the bottom of the sixth wasn’t clutch, but it was just as important for a team that struggles to score runs with Chris Sale on the mound.
After jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the fifth, Moreland gave his team more of a cushion with this blast hit to dead center:
In all, it was Moreland’s 11th homer of the season and came at a good time in the game. It allowed Sale to continue his aggressiveness on the mound and also took pressure off the bullpen when they entered the game.
"“Mitch, he’s been swinging the bat well against lefties. Not surprising there,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said after the game. “Overall, a good job by the offense.”"
It wasn’t the 14 runs the team exploded for in the series opener, but manufacturing runs the way the team did on Sunday was a good sign. As far as for Mitch Moreland, the team could use more of his bat going down the stretch, especially if the team isn’t able to add a bat by the MLB trade deadline.
