He is related to Reggie Lewis

Dozier won’t be able to wear No. 35 anymore. The Boston Celtics retired it in honor of his 2nd cousin Reggie Lewis.

Lewis was the ultimate case of what could’ve been. In 6 seasons he averaged 17.6 points and 4.3 rebounds a game. He was on his way to being an amazing player. He was a great defender and could score. If you force Michael Jordan to shoot 12-36 from the field and block 4 of his shots in a single game you have some amazing skill.

Lewis died doing what he loved, playing basketball. He collapsed while practicing at Brandeis University and was never able to be revived. Boston grieved for a young man whose life was tragically cut short.

Lewis was on the fast track to being a star in the league. Had he lived he may have gone down as one of the best Celtics to ever play.

Dozier will be carrying Lewis’s legacy on when he steps on the TD Garden court.
