Boston Red Sox sink Yankees in dramatic fashion: 3 defining moments
David Price fights off his demons
Following the pitching performances of Rick Porcello and Nathan Eovaldi, David Price had no choice but be good on Sunday night.
Facing a pitcher like Masahiro Tanaka, Price’s ability to escape the first inning without giving up a run was an important moment in the game and for his confidence against the New York Yankees.
As disastrous as he previous starts against the Pinstripes have been, particularly in the first inning, the last thing Price needed was to load the bases in that first inning.
In was trending as another ESPN Sunday Night Baseball fiasco turned into a game-changing motivator for the veteran lefty. Not only did Price find a way to escape the inning, he kept the Yankees scoreless for six innings and actually exited the game with a 1-0 lead.
So, how was David Price feeling after the game? Well, his words speak for themselves.
"“It was big,” Price said. “You know I think I’ve given up at least three runs against those guys in the first inning every time this year. And to make pitches and get out of that first inning, that was big.”"
Perhaps, the greatest moment was when Price walked off the field to a Fenway Park standing ovation. Talk about poetic.
