Boston Red Sox vs Chicago White Sox: 4-game series prediction
By Riley Culler
GAME 4: September 2nd – Sunday: Red Sox @ White Sox 2:10PM (EST)
Probable Pitchers:
- Boston – (L) Brian Johnson (4-3)
- Chicago – (R) James Shields (5-15)
Brian Johnson has looked good in his last 3 starts, giving up just 7 earned runs in 14.1 innings pitched. Not the best earned run average, but being the 4th or 5th pitcher in Boston’s rotation, it isn’t bad. Although inconsistent, Johnson can throw the heat on occasion, he struck out 11 batter in 5 innings pitched earlier this month against a deadly Yankee’s lineup.
This is the only meeting between these two teams this series where Boston won’t have the more experienced pitcher, but can experience help a struggling veteran? James Shields is a terrible 5-15 on the season, with 4.54 ERA. Once a star pitcher in his prime, the 12 year veteran has struggled in the latter parts of his career. Don’t think he can’t bring back the heat every once in a while.
Prediction: Loss
Don’t let James Shields record fool you, he’s still in the major league for a reason, he can sling it. I think Chicago will swing early and often against Johnson, giving the White Sox an early lead.

The Boston Red Sox will mount a comeback, but will fall just short not only of the victory, but the 4-game-sweep too.
