Boston Celtics: 3 reasons team is ‘as good as advertised’
The bench is very good
We all know about the starting five, but the main reason why the Boston Celtics is as good as advertised is their bench.
Due to the injuries to Gordon Hayward and Kyrie Irving, the bench was a weakness for the Celtics as far as depth goes. However, the minutes Terry Rozier, Marcus Morris, Marcus Smart and Aron Baynes contributed in starting roles gives Brad Stevens that much more depth and adds creativity to what he can do with his lineups.
Stevens can go small, he can go big, he can put in a lineup emphasizing defense or offense. That’s not even including Daniel Theis and Semi Ojeleye, two players who have also made contributions on the defensive end.
Add 2018 first-round pick Robert Williams to the mix and the Boston Celtics may have the best bench in all of basketball.
With their toughness, size and ability to add a spark off the bench, there will be many times when the bench wins games for this Boston Celtics team. The bench with attitude, as Morris has labeled them, will certainly push the starters.
As we know, Brad Stevens doesn’t play around. If one of the stars isn’t performing, this coach has no problem yanking them out of the lineup and go with a player who is getting it done.
