With Joe Kelly gone and Craig Kimbrel still out in the open market, the Red Sox need for a closer is greater than ever. The next best in-house option to anchor the bullpen is Ryan Braiser, but who knows if Boston wants to take that step just yet. This is where free agent Adam Ottavino comes into play.

Ottavino is now 33, and 2019 will be the 9th year in his career. In 2018, Ottavino pitched in 75 games and had a 2.43 ERA in 77.2 innings pitched with 112 strikeouts and only 36 walks and an impressive 0.991 WHIP.

Now, Ottavino had 6 saves in 11 opportunities this past season, so asking him to come to Boston to be the closer could be a daunting task. If the Boston Red Sox aren’t able to bring back Craig Kimbrel for a reasonable price, Dave Dombrowski might have to look West and attempt to sign the former Rockies closer.
