C – Jonathan Lucroy

Lucroy would be an interesting fit here in Boston. The catcher position isn’t necessarily a position of need, but adding a player like Lucroy would improve the offensive production out of the position.

2019 will be the 10th year of his career, as the catcher has moved around from team to team since 2016.

After 6 and a half years in Milwaukee, Lucroy was traded to the Texas Rangers at the trade deadline in 2016. At the 2017 trade deadline, he was shipped off to the Colorado Rockies as a rental player. In March of this year, he signed a deal with the Oakland Athletics and has now hit the open market yet again, looking for a new team.

Lucroy is a career .277 hitter, with his best days of production behind him. Just this past year, he hit just 5 HR and drove in 51 runs; Compared to the 56 RBI provided by Christian Vazquez, Blake Swihart, and Sandy Leon, Lucroy could definitely be an offensive upgrade.

Lucroy could be cheap, as he made $6.5 million in 2018. It seems that the organization is content with the catcher position, so signing Lucroy could be a long shot, but that’s what a Christmas wish list is for.
