The New England Patriots need these five defensive players to step up to advance past the Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC Divisional Round.

When the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Chargers square off in the Divisional Round playoff game Sunday at Gillette Stadium all eyes will be on two veteran quarterbacks.

How 19-year veteran Tom Brady fairs against the heavy pass rush of the Chargers and how 15-year veteran Philip Rivers holds his own against the mastermind of Bill Belichick will likely dictate the outcome of this one.

Let’s face it, the Chargers defense have the big names in Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram while the Patriots defense doesn’t exactly strike fear in opposing offenses.  But that is what makes them dangerous.

Holding their own through the last part of the 2018 NFL season, the New England Patriots are an underrated bunch who must step up to prove they can get it down against a savvy veteran quarterback with some explosive offensive weapons.

They have seen this show before going up against the Kansas City Chiefs, Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings during the regular season.  Bill Belichick will have them ready, but individual players will have to step up to keep the Chargers rushing and passing attack at bay.

Here are five defensive New England Patriots players to watch in the AFC Divisional Round matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.
