Patriots Nation is saddened by the news of Rob Gronkowski’s retirement. We finally have the answer to the long-awaited question following the Super Bowl. Instead of mourning the news, let’s look back and celebrate an amazing career.

Dear Rob Gronkowski,

Thank you for your time in New England. You are the best tight end in the history of the NFL and a first ballot Hall of Famer. I can speak for Patriots Nation in saying that you will be greatly missed and will always have a place in our hearts when we look back on this tremendous run by the greatest organization in sports.

Watching you catch passes from Tom Brady was something I would look forward to come Sunday’s (even more so when I had you in fantasy). Not to mention the 17 receiving TD’s to lead the league in 2011.

Thank you for trade marking the Gronk spike, as that was always fun to watch, along with your other various TD celebrations. Brady will have to find a new safety blanket this season, as there will be a huge void not seeing No. 87 on the line.

Now, I know this decision was something that was very difficult; but we all know it’s for the better. No one has taken a beating compared to you, and I support your decision to walk away from the game.

At least you’re going out on top, with your last NFL catch being the most important in Super Bowl 53. It would have been even better if it was a touchdown (only 3 more yards) but it still set up a pivotal score on the game’s biggest stage.

Gronk recorded 521 receptions for 7861 yards and 79 touchdowns in 115 games over 9 years is an impressive career. Add in another season’s worth of playoff games (16 career playoff games) and 81 receptions, 1163 yards and 12 touch downs, and Canton has already started to sculpt your bust for when you eventually get in the Hall of Fame. Three Super Bowl rings is also a nice touch.

Being the second most important player in the Patriots’ dynasty behind Tom Brady isn’t a title just given out, but you have most certainly earned it. Enjoy retirement, and I will be looking forward to seeing you on that Sunday night when the New England Patriots open the 2019 season en route defend yet another Championship.

Thank you No. 87.
