LOS ANGELES, CA – OCTOBER 25: David Ortiz. (Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images) /

2. David Ortiz

The face of the Boston Red Sox in the 21st century is without a doubt David Ortiz. Whether it was on or off the field Ortiz personified what it meant to be a member of the Boston Red Sox.

Ortiz was amazing on the field. One swing of the bat could change the momentum of the entire game. Ortiz is one of the best designated hitters to ever play the game.

In his career Ortiz had a .286 batting average with 541 home runs and 1,768 RBIs. Then you have to add all of the clutch hits that Ortiz has had over his career.

But there is another reason that Ortiz belongs on the 21st century Boston sports Mt. Rushmore. He was amazing off the field.

Ortiz has a charity to help pay for medical needs of children in Boston and also in the Dominican Republic. Big papi embraced the city of Boston. He became one of us. That is why he will always be loved.
