Chase Winovich, DE

New England Patriots third-round pick Chase Winovich has come as good as advertised.

After his first five games in the NFL, the Michigan Wolverines product already has 4.0 sacks on the season and will add to that total Thursday night against the New York Giants.

Why?

With his high motor, Winovich will put pressure on Daniel Jones if he hangs in the pocket.  He will also not give up on plays and get to Jones if and when he decides to scramble out the pocket.

Given the short week, this is definitely a game where Winovich’s youth and high motor plays a role in the defense.  I actually predict Chase Winovich in on a couple of sacks in this game.  He will also make sure announcers like CBS play-by-play man Greg Gumbel know where he played his college football.

In the team’s Week 5 matchup against the Washington Redskins, Gumbel labeled Winovich as the “rookie out of Wisconsin.”  That’s a big no no for a player who played at the University of Michigan.  Just added motivation for the New England Patriots edge rusher.
