Players to watch

The New England Patriots season may depend on someone stepping up offensively besides Julian Edelman, Mohamed Sanu and James White.

They simply need more out of the tight end position and they have to get their running game going.  With that being said, the health of tight end Matt LaCosse is something to watch as he, along with Ben Watson could give Tom Brady a couple of more outlet targets in short yardage situations.

In the running game, Sony Michel will continue to be the focus.  If he doesn’t get it going, don’t be surprised if 2019 third-round pick Damian Harris doesn’t start getting reps in his place sooner rather than later.

Defensively, look for Jamie Collins to be a factor in this game.  His speed and athleticism will help Bill Belichick add in some different kinds of schemes against whatever Doug Pederson throws his way.

For the Philadelphia Eagles, tight end Zach Ertz will be the top target on offense with wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, running back Darren Sproles and possible running back Jordon Howard ruled out for this game.

The Patriots must keep Carson Wentz in the pocket and keep an eye on the very versatile Nelson Agholor.  They also have to make sure backup running back Miles Sanders doesn’t have a big game catching the ball out of the backfield.

On the defensive side, defensive end Derek Barnett is capable of getting pressure on Tom Brady and Malcolm Jenkins is always a force in the middle of the field.

Prediction

Although that Super Bowl LI loss was two years ago, you better believe a victory in Philadelphia will be sweet for Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.  In this defensive battle, the Patriots will get the offense rolling in key spots to beat the Eagles 23-13.
