Mookie Betts

Boston Red Sox slugger Mookie Betts has the talent, the flash on the baseball field and the accolades to be one of the greatest to play the game.

Yes, one of the greatest.

What he doesn’t have is the marketability that players like Bryce Harper and Mike Trout has and he doesn’t have the contract of either of those players.

The latter should take care of itself either prior to the 2020 MLB season or following as Betts is set to hit free agency.

For Red Sox fans and throughout Red Sox Nation, the hope is Mookie Betts fulfills his greatness in Boston.  In winning multiple Gold Glove awards, Silver Slugger awards and AL MVP in 2018, the dynamic outfielder is worth at least Bryce Harper money and Boston should do their diligence to brighten that Mookie Betts smile.

If they don’t, some other team will either blow them away with a trade offer or serve up the big bucks once and if he hits free agency following the 2020 season.

And why wouldn’t they?

At just 27, Mookie Betts has a career average of .301 with 139 homers, 470 RBI and 613 runs scored.  He still has some monster seasons ahead of him and could see that No. 50 shining in Fenway Park up there with the other Boston Red Sox greats.
